"Bereaved Parents Helping Bereaved Parents "

Anam Cara would like to set up Support Satellite groups in new areas/counties throughout the country.  To do this we need local volunteers to become Anam Cara Liaison Parents and host these group sessions. There are also opportunities to help out at established Satellite Groups too.

These satellite groups offer bereaved parents the opportunity to meet, in a safe environment, with other parents who also have experienced the loss of a son or daughter.  They would help reduce the social isolation we often feel after the death of our children.   

Our current satellite groups have shown that it can help the healing process to spend some of the journey through grief after the death of your children with others who really know how you feel.

Anam Cara has our "Core Values" to help guide the Anam Cara Liaison Parents and any new parents coming into the group.

The satellite groups meet once a month, for two hours, usually on a set day and time that suits the Liaison Parents.  For each satellite group we normally look for 2 - 3 Liaison Parents, that way you can share the commitment and responsibility.  It also gives you the opportunity to go to a satellite group meeting as a bereaved parent with someone else taking over meeting that month. 

The Satelllite meetings normally take place in a comfortable public area such as a hotel or similar property.  No costs are incurred by the host.

Is this for me?

To volunteer as a Liaison Parent for a satellite group in your area, we would recommend you are 18 – 24 months on in your journey, after the death of your son or daughter.  Anam Cara will supply you with any materials you may need, guidelines, welcome notes, and information leaflets.

Before You Start!

We facilitate professionally led training workshops for our Liaison Parents, so they will feel comfortable and confident facilitating their group.  You would also have a chance to shadow another Liaison Parent to see what the role entails.

Will it set me back on my journey through grief and loss?
Our Liaison Parents overall well being is of paramount importance to Anam Cara.  Bereaved parents who take on this role in their area will be offered Refresher Training and Self Care Sessions.  These sessions will be facilitated by a qualified bereavement therapist.
