What is the purpose of the Anam Cara Satellite Group?

For bereaved parents the loneliness and isolation following the death of our son or daughter can be overwhelming. The satellite groups afford bereaved parents an opportunity to meet with other bereaved parents in a relaxed setting.

Where do these Anam Cara Satellite meetings take place and what format does it take?

The Satellite groups meet informally, usually once a month in a central location.  The usual format is a chat over a cup of coffee. We tend to focus on the similarities not the differences following the loss of our Son or daughter, as your loss may be recent or many years ago, a small baby or mature adult, sudden or expected death. Anam Cara is an all inclusive support group for any parent or sibling who has lost a son or daughter, brother or sister.

How soon can I go to these meetings ?

There is no right or wrong time to attend a Satellite meeting. Most of us desperately want to talk to another bereaved parent after our son or daughter has died, to try and make some sense of the pain and despair we feel.  We would recommend you call the information number 085 2888 888, to find the nearest meeting to you. We  can then put you in touch with the Anam Cara Liaison Parents who look after that meeting.  Also the Anam Cara Private Message Forum is another medium you can use to contact other bereaved parents www.anamcara.ie/forum

By getting together with other bereaved parents who although on the same journey, may be a little further along, can offer you an opportunity to talk to someone who completely understands how you are feeling and as some of our bereaved parents have testified, give you some hope that you may survive this tragedy!

Sometimes I find it hard to attend on my own, what would be best for me to do?

Anam Cara Satellite groups offer empathy, compassion and friendship. All of us at Anam Cara are parents who have lost a precious son or daughter.

How can I find my nearest Anam Cara Satellite Group?

Our aim is to eventually have a Satellite Group in every County in Ireland. For the moment the current Satellite groups are listed below:

This group normally meet in the comfortable lounge area to the left as you enter the hotel, if this area is not open, they will be in the main lobby area.
